Lesson Five

Today we are talking about prioritizing your life, and looking at the mindset many of us have struggled with I don’t have time.

I know that I used to use the phrase I don’t have time as an excuse to get out of a lot of things in the past. I want to share with you some things I have learned about time, priorities and being honest with yourself.

The phrase I don’t have time is pretty similar to our phrase from lesson 1 I just need more time. I want to make a clear distinction. I just need more time is a cry for help, doing too many things – that’s why learning how to manage our self, our schedule and our boundaries is so important.

Today’s phrase I don’t have time is usually used more as an excuse. And it’s an excuse for not asking ourselves the tough questions. Important questions like – Is this important to me? Why do I not want to go? What are my priorities? And it’s also an excuse for not being honest with others.

Today’s mindset shift, rather than saying: I don’t have time, we want to change it to It’s not a priority.

This mindset shift requires that we make a decision, and decide what our priority is. Be real with yourself and acknowledge what your priority is. You are the only person that knows that. Is it the social event, relaxing, homework, quality family time, or housework? Let’s own our decisions and how we are using our time. Then tell people what the priority is.

Here’s a question to think about: Why do I not want to be honest with myself about my priorities?

Sometimes we say I don’t have time because we don’t want to be honest with ourselves. Maybe we’re tired and we would rather stay home, don’t want to learn something new, or would rather hang out with our friends than complete our project.

Here’s an additional reflection for today – start noticing when you say I don’t have time and ask yourself for an honest answer about why you don’t want to do something or go somewhere. It is a great way to learn about yourself!

I promise you – the truth is liberating. Think about your priorities, and make some time for them.

Let’s make this mindset shift today: From I don’t have time to… It’s not a priority.

A note from Kathryn…

I hope you are enjoying this free video course. It comes from such a deep place of conviction in my life and has made a huge impact on hundreds of students over the last 6 years.

The question becomes… where do you go from here? How do you take these simple truths about life, time, schedule and priorities and begin to implement them?

Sometimes we need support to know how to take the next steps.

Sometimes we need accountability to make the progress we want to see.

Sometimes we need regular reminders to let go of the guilt.

Sometimes we need permission to focus, and not try to do all the things.

If that resonates with you, my group program where we can celebrate our progress towards the future we want to experience rather than chase perfection, might be a great fit for you.

I want to teach you how the power of planning can make a huge difference in your life.
